How is Jesus the Son of David? (I Thought His Father's Name Was Joseph!) Reading Matthew 20 #122 +The True Meaning of Greatness in Heaven

Jesus is called "Son of David," by blind men and a foreign woman in the Bible. What does this title mean - given that Jesus' human father was named Joseph, how can He be the son of David?
